Legislative Committee

 

 

The Terms of Reference of the Legislative Committee are:

  • To examine the laws, regulations and decrees related to women and propose any amendments deemed necessary

  • To express opinions on draft laws, regulations and decrees related to the objectives of NCW.

  • To follow up on the enforcement of laws, regulations and decrees so as to ensure gender equality, as stipulated in the Egyptian Constitution.

  • To examine and study issues referred to it by NCW President.

    Activities of the Committee:

    The activities of the Legislative Committee during 2007 included:

  • Discussion of the constitutional amendments related to article 62 in order to finalize draft text of the provisions of the article, as recommended during the Seventh National Conference of NCW.

  • Finalizing its vision on the Civil Employment Draft Law, while not accepting the draft law proposed by the Local Development Ministry. It also discussed the Public Employment Draft Law prepared by the State Council and submitted a report expressing its views thereon.

  • Preparing a number of working papers related to the penal code, and proposing to introduce amendments to three basic provisions deemed to contain discrimination against women in honor crimes and combating prostitution laws.

  • Preparing a report related to the United Nations Resolution No. (60/139) on Violence against Women, in response to a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

  • Discussing the proposed amendments to Law 10/2004 on Family Courts and the refusal of Nasser Bank to disburse the alimony payments due, based on the agreement reached through the dispute settlement offices of family courts.
