Political Participation Committee

 

 

The Terms of Reference of the Committee are:

  • To study public policies and recommend the perusal of those that could lead to enhancing the political empowerment of women.

  • To propose the necessary programs for promoting women's political participation at all levels.

  • To prepare studies on means and ways by which to enhance women's political participation.

  • To examine and study issues referred to it by NCW President.

    Activities of the Committee:

    The activities of the Political Participation Committee during 2007 included:

  • Calling on political parties and their chairpersons to nominate as many women as possible for the Shura Council (Egypt's Upper house of parliament) elections.

  • Holding a series of meetings with the heads of women's bureaus at the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Information, Culture and the National Council for Youth with the aim of implementing the plan drawn up by the Political Participation Committee to support women nominees in the Shura Council elections.

  • Opening its door for leading women from different political orientations to join the membership of the Committee, which resulted in a number of women leaders from six political parties becoming members of the Committee.
