The Branches of the Council

The Council shall establish Branches
in all the governorates. Each branch is composed of
9 to 18 members among public figures with experience
in women issues and in the social activities of the
governorate. The branches are established by a decree
from the Secretary General after the approval of the President of
the Council for a period of two years, subject to renewal.

All the branches have a technical secretariat supervised
by the Coordinator of the branch. |

The branches of the Council shall have the following
authorities:
|
1. To implement the recommendations adopted by the
Council.
2. To study the difficulties and obstacles that face
the implementation of the Council's policies and the
specific recommendations for the governorate, and
propose the adequate solutions.
3. To follow-up the evaluation of the policies related
to women in the governorate and propose policies and
the commensurate means to mainstream gender in the
programs of development.
4. To organize meetings, sessions, round table discussions
and workshops to discuss issues pertaining to women,
in particular matters specific to the community of
the governorate.
5. Any other matters referred by the President of
the Council.
At their first meeting, members of
the branch elect a Coordinator,

who shall be officially
nominated by a decree from the Secretary General after
the approval of the president of the council.
The Coordinator shall be responsible for implementing
the decisions of the branch, the general supervision
of the technical secretariat and staff, the management
of administrative and financial affairs.

|
A general conference at the level
of the governorate shall be held and shall be chaired
by the governor and his secretariat is held by the coordinator of the branch. |
The general conference of the governorate
shall convene at least once each year by written invitation
addressed to the members by the president of the conference.
The invitation shall include the agenda of the conference
and should be sent at least two weeks prior to the
conference. Recommendations shall be adopted by the
majority of votes.

Activities:
NCW Cairo Branch seeks to promote women and advance their living
conditions. In this context, it formed an ad-hoc committee in
collaboration with Cairo Commercial Chamber to study the
problems of women Entrepreneurs. It also implemented a program
for training them, activating their enterprises and raising
their marketing skills, The Branch contributed to setting up a
number of SMEs.

NCW Qalyubia branch organized several training sessions for
female rural community leaders. The sessions held in the Health
and Social Solidarity Directorates and the Ministry of Local
Development, aimed to raise the trainees' awareness of women's
roles, responsibilities and duties, as well raise their skills
in identifying the needs of women in the local communities and
prioritize these needs. The training also aimed at enhancing the
trainees' skills in establishing contacts with the civil society
and executive agencies, raising awareness of the role of NCW,
increasing knowledge of the concepts of gender issues,
correcting the wrong social misconceptions about women, and also
raising women's awareness in the area of panning and running
SMEs. It also highlighted the role of local officials in
encouraging women to start up SMEs. NCW Qalyubia Branch will
also focus on practical training which serves the promotion of
SMEs.

Activities:
NCW Al-Buhaira Branch laid down a strategy aiming to raise the
economic standard of families and alleviate poverty. In this
context, a committee was formed by the Governor's decree to
coordinate between the various parties concerned with training,
funding and the implementation of projects included in the
strategy for the economic empowerment of women. A survey of poor
women was made at the governorate level. 1598 SMEs were
implemented. 191 job opportunities were created for poor women
and a number of training session were implemented in
collaboration between the Branch and agricultural associations
specialized in cultivating and marketing mushroom.

NCW Gharbiya Governorate Branch drew up a plan for enhancing
women's political participation through conducting several

and rural community leaders to assume their role in raising
awareness of the importance of political participation in

NCW Suez Governorate Branch concentrates on combating the
problem of unemployment for women. The Branch set up a database

with businessmen and entrepreneurs to combat the problem of
unemployment. The branch was able to appoint 20 female engineers
and provide 50 work opportunities in the tourism and hotels
sector in addition to providing 3000 work opportunities for
females in the various weaving companies.

and some feminine associations with the aim of coordinating
efforts and ensuring that medical services are delivered to the
deprived areas.

NCW Meniya Governorate Branch adopted the issue of fostering

economic level of women heads of households is another issue
adopted by the Branch. Steps to achieve this goal included
streamlining the credit procedures adopted by the various
lending agencies, increasing the income of 1000 women heads of
households and enhancing the technical and working skills of
those women.

NCW Fayyoum Governorate Branch organized a number of meetings

development projects through the Coalition of Fayyoum for Women
Development in collaboration with the Center for Development and
Population Activities. The Branch also trained 300 female
community leaders through organizing 10 training sessions to
enhance their skills and capacities as it considers it a
priority to develop human resources paying special attention to
health and population issues.

The Assuit Branch of NCW organized a number of programs
including the program for combating osteoporosis to raise
awareness of this disease and its treatment. To achieve this
goal, the Branch organized a number of symposia which targeted
working women during which medical tests were conducted to
measure the rate of bone intensity for women over 45 years old,
and the consultants of physiotherapy prescribed medications for
those who need it. Meanwhile, research studies were conducted on
1053 ladies aging between 40 to over 55 by the medical
professors of Assuit University.

Activities:
As part of the protocol signed between NCW and CEDPA for the
empowerment of Egyptian Women, the NCW Aswan Branch adopted two
main issues: 1) the health issue through combating the spread of
iron deficiency among women in Aswan. Towards this end, the
Branch organized several symposia which targeted 168 women to
raise their awareness of the disease and ways of treating it in
addition to conducting free medical examination on 592 women. 2)
Providing support for women heads of households. In this
connection, the Branch, in collaboration with NGOs working in
Aswan, succeeded in providing loans to 656 women to carry out
small enterprises.

Activities:
NCW Quina Branch laid down a strategy aiming at raising the
economic level of families and alleviating poverty. The Women
Heads of Households Project was applied in the villages of Qalaa
and Abu-Diyab in which poor women were identified and provided
with soft loans. In the first phase, projects for raising
cattle, sheep and poultry as well as setting up groceries
projects were funded.

Activities:
The NCW Red Sea Branch succeeded in eradicating the illiteracy
of 11.000 women in coordination with the General Authority for
Literacy and Adult Education. The Branch also set up an
electronic website aiming to raise skills of e-marketing for
women entrepreneurs. To achieve this goal, 26 training sessions
and 12 discussion panels were conducted to educate women on how
to use this website. The Branch, in collaboration with the
Social Fund for Development, also provided loans to 2200 women
to carry out small and micro-enterprises

Activities:
The NCW Luxor City Branch contributed to issuing 25011 national
identity cards for women in cooperation with the Higher Council
of Luxor City and the Ministry of local development. The Branch
also cooperated with the General Authority for Literacy and
Adult Education in organizing 17 classes to eradicating the
illiteracy of women. It also contributed in collaboration with
the Directorate of Education in Setting up 5 one-classroom to
overcome the problem of girls dropping out from schools.
