In her address marking the celebration of the Egyptian's Women Day, Mrs.
Suzanne Mubarak, Egypt’s First Lady and President of the National Council
for Women (NCW) called on the government to accelerate presenting legislative
amendments, which ensures the fair representation of women in the Parliament
and increases their political participation.
"Women are the first victims of economic crises and armed conflicts," Mrs.
Suzanne Mubarak said. She pointed out that the destruction and other forms
of human tragedies, which took place in Gaza, are rejected by the human conscience
and criminalized by international conventions and laws.

• The Legislative Committee of NCW held a meeting on
Monday February 16, 2009. The meeting, chaired by
Councilor Hassan Badrawi, the Committee Rapporteur,
focused on the substantive (Not the procedural)
provisions of the Personal Status law which are governed
by other personal status laws. The Committee presented
its findings to the General Secretariat of NCW.

• NCW’s Women Business Development Center (WBDC)
organized a training session on February 15-18 2008 to
raise the efficiency of female employees. The training
session entitled “Developing the Financial Performance
and Preparing Budgets”, aimed at acquainting the
trainees with the conceptual framework for financial
accounting, its goals, concepts and the basic elements

Strategic Planning

• WBDC organized a training session on February 22-25
entitled “Strategic Planning”. The session targeted a
number of female employees in several governmental and
private sector institutions. It aimed to acquaint the
trainees with an introduction to contemporary management
(its concepts and elements), human resources management
as well as the conceptual framework for preparing
studies on setting plans for managing human resources.

NCW Branches

NCW held a meeting on Thursday January 15,
2009 with the rapporteurs of NCW branches in the
governorates. During the meeting, Dr. Fakhonda Hassan,
NCW Secretary General, reviewed the mandate of the
branches and their roles in following up on the
villages’ plans to promote women. She underscored the
importance of the branches of the Ombudsman Office and
the importance of filed work in the period ahead. A main
area of interest, she noted, was issuing unable women
with identity national cards and electoral cards in
preparation for the coming elections in 2010.
