Egyptian Women's Legal Rights Project
(in electronic format)

NCW, in collaboration with UNDP, established the Women's Legal Rights Project. It is a regional, European Union-funded project: (ICTDAR: Information and Communications Technology Development in Arab Region), covering Egypt, Lebanon and Tunisia that aims to provide a service to retrieve legal information electronically through a database.

The information is presented in a simple format, using simple Arabic language, in a question-answer format. It is offered on CD-ROMs, videotapes and on the Internet. The purpose is to provide information and answers women's queries on personal status issues (e.g. alimony, divorce, and child custody) with the ultimate goal of simplifying litigation procedures. Access to this service is provided in women's centers and women's clubs in various ministries throughout the governorates, and through NGOs active in the field of women's rights.

Training sessions have been organized to train the staff of the clubs, centers and NGOs. An experimental viewing of the CD-ROM was conducted by NCW for a group of women in the village of Shabramant.
