Women Empowerment through
Coalition Building with the Civil Society

This project was carried out through cooperation between NCW and the Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) and has been implemented in the governorates of Beni-Suef, Qena, Fayyoum, Meniya, Aswan and North Sinai to:

1- Enable women and their advocates to carry out awareness activities on the importance of women’s inclusion in the development process and to influence decision-makers at the level of governorates.
2- Determine the issues of concern for each governorate through training the leading cadres in NCW branch offices on how to obtain consensus and build coalitions.
3- Enhance the ability of NCW branch offices to support and follow-up the activities of the coalitions.

This was achieved through the organization of 19 training sessions, and field visits to the governorates.
The output of the project is the production of a procedural guide on how to form coalitions
A ceremony was held on 6 September 2006 to present the results of the project and to celebrate the empowerment of women through the formation of coalitions. The ceremony was attended by members of NCW and its Standing Committees, members of NCW branch offices in the relevant governorates, representatives of governors and NGOs as well as clergy men.
