Raising awareness of the importance
of women's political participation

Political Forums

Since its inception in 2000, NCW has devoted considerable efforts towards enhancing women's participation in parliamentary and local council’s elections.

From 2000-2003
The Second Intellectual forum held by NCW about women's political participation was the signal to start supporting the political participation of women. It was followed by several popular conferences organized in the governorates, to create awareness of the importance of women’s participation in public life in youth centers, universities, grassroots communities and labor unions.
On a more practical aspect, NCW contributed, through its branches in the governorates, to helping women obtain identity cards for vote registration.

In 2004
NCW, in collaboration with the Public Authority for Cultural Palaces (PACP), started to implement the activities of the political forum through its branches and the branches of PACP spread across the governorates. Around 293 awareness raising meetings targeting 40.021 women were held.

In 2005
In 2005, NCW, in collaboration with various ministries and concerned agencies, undertook extensive efforts to enhance women's capabilities to run for and vote in parliamentary and local councils’ elections. Popular meetings were arranged to provide a platform for dialogue among the various strata of society on the importance of women's political participation. NCW also held several meetings with popular and executive leaders in the governorates to support women's political participation. This resulted in a substantive increase in the number of women voters in the presidential and the 2005 parliamentary elections, especially from the rural areas and Upper Egypt.

In 2006
To complement its efforts towards a more equitable representation of women in the political sphere, NCW organized a roundtable meeting that brought together a number of parliamentary members, chairs of political parties, representatives of NGOs, the media and public figures. Discussions revolved around issues that could lead to the enhancement and development of the political capabilities of women. NCW is pursuing its activities in this regard.
