The Library


  • NCW library established February 2001 with UNESCO’s & UNDP’s technical and financial support is a special library in women literature.



  • Library Collection:


  • The library contains a large number of books, files, reports, periodicals and training manuals for women’s development issues in addition to NCW’s publications.


  • To consolidate the library’s holdings a number of text books, conference documents, and research papers which have been downloaded as printed material from official women websites.


  • Library collection catalogued according to the Anglo American Cataloging Rules (AACRII), a bibliographic database built using (aLIS) the most library information system LIS widespread in Egypt. The library holdings are classified & shelved in open stake.


  • The library provides a list of Egyptian laws and legislation concerning women obtained from the Legislation and Development Information System (LADIS).


  • Cooperation between NCW library and other corresponding Egyptian libraries are made to serve users, contacts have been established with Cairo University main library and The Information Network at Ain- Shams University to obtain a list of titles and bibliographic data of theses concerning women. The library provides abstracts for theses in compliance with the rules of the world’s intellectual property rights (WIPO).


  • Library Services:


    - The Library offers its services to users in all fields related to women. The library offers the following services:

  • 1) Answering queries:

  • The library will answer all queries concerning:
    * Addresses of specialized centers on women’s affairs and means of contact.
    * Information about other libraries where the required specific data is available.
    * Dates and Venues of conferences and meetings on women’s issues, as well as speeches delivered and papers presented.
    * NCW’S mandate, composition and field of specialization of NCW’s standing committees, as well as NCW branches.
    * Any other relevant queries to women.


  • 2) Supplying Documents Service:

  • * Supplying documents is provided by the library through downloading documents from the Internet or getting it from other libraries.

  • 3) Photocopying:

  • * Photocopying is available (for a minimal fee), with respect to the world’s intellectual property rights (WIPO).

  • 4) Internal Reading:

  • * A comfortable reading area is available for all users. Reading facilities with no restrictions are well equipped for multi- media display.


  • 5) Borrowing:

  • * To protect library holdings from loss or damage this service is limited to NCW members, standing committees, and employees.
    * Library policy permits two week renewable borrowing period, renewals can be made in person or by phone.
    * The library policy allows reserving specified books, and informs the reserver of it’s availability.
    * In case of loss or damage of a borrowed book, the borrower will have to provide another copy, and will loose the right for further borrowing.


  • 6) Internet service:

  • * The library offers online search on the Internet to help obtain up to date data on women’s issues.
    * Each user is allowed one hour on the Internet with no restriction on time if there is no waiting list.
    * External users are allowed against paying minimal fee to printout material from the Internet with no restriction on the number of printed pages.


  • 7) Audio- visual materials:

  • * The library has a comprehensive collection of video tapes, cassettes of all NCW conferences, TV spots, as well as documentaries on women issues.

    Working Hours:

  • Open daily from 10 am– 3:30 pm.

  • Closed Fridays, Saturdays and Official holidays.
